Bergville

BERGVILLE (KwaZulu-Natal)

“Gateway to the Barrier of Spears”

Something unique about our little town…

There’s a dramatic beauty in Bergville — where towering mountains rise like walls of stone and nature feels powerful, alive, and untamed.

Set at the foot of the northern Drakensberg, Bergville is your gateway to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in South Africa. Here, the mountains don’t just sit in the distance — they dominate the horizon.

Mornings arrive with mist rolling over valleys, while afternoons open into wide skies and crisp mountain air.

No limits. No noise. Just adventure and awe.

It’s not just a destination… it’s an experience.

A bit of history

Bergville’s story is shaped by both nature and culture.

The mighty Tugela River once formed a natural boundary between the Zulu Kingdom and the old Colony of Natal, giving the area deep historical significance.

The town itself developed after 1897, when a retired sea captain established a trading post — laying the foundation for what would become a farming and tourism hub.

Today, Bergville blends agriculture, heritage, and adventure into one unique place.
