EAST LONDON (Eastern Cape)
“Where river meets ocean, and city meets coast”
Something unique about our little town…
East London has a rhythm all its own — a coastal city where the ocean, rivers, and rolling greenery come together in a way that feels both wild and welcoming.
Set along the Sunshine Coast of Eastern Cape, it’s one of the few places in South Africa where a river flows directly into the sea right through the heart of the city.
Here, you get the best of both worlds: laid-back beach living and the energy of a working city. Mornings often begin with mist over the water, and evenings end with golden sunsets over the Indian Ocean.
It’s not rushed. It’s real. And it’s deeply connected to nature.
A bit of history
East London grew around the mouth of the Buffalo River and became an important port during the 19th century.
Originally established as a military outpost during the frontier wars, it later developed into a key shipping hub for wool and other agricultural products from the interior.
Its harbour remains the only river port in South Africa, shaping the city’s identity and economy over time.
