Hoedspruit

HOEDSPRUIT (Limpopo)
“Where the wild still rules”

Hoedspruit isn’t just a town — it’s the gateway to the wild.

Set between the Klein Drakensberg mountains and the vast Lowveld bush, this is where Africa feels alive. You might hear lions in the distance at night, spot giraffes on your morning drive, or watch elephants move slowly through the bush.

Here, nature isn’t something you visit… it surrounds you.

No city noise. Just the rhythm of the wild.

It’s not just a destination… it’s an experience.

A bit of history

Hoedspruit began as a small railway siding in the early 1900s, serving farmers and transport routes through the Lowveld.

The name “Hoedspruit” means “Hat Creek” in Afrikaans — inspired by a rock formation said to resemble a hat.

Over time, the town evolved from agriculture into one of South Africa’s most important eco-tourism hubs, thanks to its close proximity to world-famous wildlife areas like the Kruger National Park.

Today, Hoedspruit is known as one of the country’s safari capitals.
