JACOBSDAL
“Where rivers nourish the land… and history runs quietly beneath the surface.”
Something unique about our little town…
There’s something deeply rooted about Jacobsdal — a place where fertile land meets quiet resilience.
Set along the banks of the Riet River, this is a town shaped by water in a region where it matters most. Green fields break through the dry landscape, and life here follows the steady rhythm of farming and seasons.
It’s calm. It’s grounded.
A place where simplicity isn’t a trend… it’s a way of life.
A bit of history
Jacobsdal is located in the Free State, not far from Kimberley.
The town was established in the late 1800s and named after the farm of Jacobus Johannes Venter, who played a key role in the area’s early development.
Jacobsdal later became significant during the Second Boer War, when it served as a British military hospital base.
Over time, the development of irrigation from the Riet River transformed the area into productive agricultural land — supporting crops like maize, wheat, and lucerne.
Did you know?
Jacobsdal is one of the oldest irrigation farming areas in the Free State — thanks to the life-giving waters of the Riet River.
