Mafikeng is a place where past and present meet in powerful ways.

As the capital of the North West Province, it carries both the energy of a growing city and the grounded feel of a town with deep roots. Wide streets, government buildings, and surrounding open land give it a unique balance — structured yet spacious.

No overwhelming rush. No heavy congestion. Just steady movement and purpose.

It’s not just a capital… it’s a story in motion.

A bit of history

Mafikeng (formerly known as Mafeking) became world-famous during the Siege of Mafeking, one of the most significant events of the Second Boer War.

The town was under siege for 217 days, led by British forces under Robert Baden-Powell. The successful defense made international headlines and later inspired the founding of the Scout Movement.

In 1980, Mafikeng became the capital of the former Bophuthatswana homeland, and after 1994, it was established as the capital of the North West Province.
